Congratulations to Yi-Han Tan for being selected as one of 59 Post Doctoral Researchers from 28 Nations awarded the presigious Human Frontiers of Science Program (HFSP) Fellowship for 2024. Yi-Han is from Singapore and is doing her post doc with Ruth Ley at the Department of Microbiome Science at the MPI for Biology in Tübingen, Germany. Her winning research proposal “Understanding the host-microbe arms race through the TLR5-flagellin axis” delves into the relationship between human variants of TLR5 and their flagellin ligands in the gut.You can read more about the HFSP and Yi-Han’s project here.

The Human Frontier Science Program (HFSP) is unique in supporting
international collaboration to undertake innovative, risky, basic
research at the frontiers of the life sciences. Special emphasis is
given to the support and training of independent young investigators,
beginning at the postdoctoral level.

The Program is implemented by the International Human Frontier
Science Program Organization (HFSPO), supported financially by
Australia, Canada, the European Commission, France, Germany, India,
Israel, Italy, Japan, New Zealand, Norway, the Republic of Korea,
Singapore, South Africa, Switzerland, the United Kingdom of Great
Britian and Northern Ireland, and the United States of America.
Since, 1990, more than 8,500 researchers from more than 70 countries
have been supported. Of these, 29 HFSO awardees have gone on to
receive the Nobel Prize.
